Android is launching a TV and cinema ad to create brand awareness with UK millennials.

The film follows a group of Londoners who banded together to learn to swim and take on the city’s open waters. Their story, the first in a series, is a live action evolution of the brand’s animated “Androidify” work. The ad will run between 5-27 September. The film was directed by Ben Newman through Pulse

Breast Cancer

Breast Cancer

Breast Cancer Now, the charity born of a merger between Breast Cancer Campaign and Breakthrough Breast Cancer, announces its ambition to stop women dying of the disease by 2050 in its first ad campaign.

Rainey Kelly Campbell Roalfe/Y&R created the spot, which breaks today (15 June) on Channel 4. The ad features women who are fighting breast cancer talking about how they won’t be the last person to lose a breast to the disease, undergo endless tests or be forced to tell their children what’s happening to them. At the end, one woman says that she won’t be the last person to die of breast cancer before adding that, one day, “there will be a last one”. The work will run until October.

Florence + The Machine ‘Ship To Wreck’ by Vincent Haycock

Florence-And-The-Macine-Ship-To-Wreck-640x516

The tempestuous Florence Welch and director Vincent Haycock are back with a new instalment in a series of videos for her upcoming album How Big, How Blue, How Beautiful, and once again reality transforms into something far more theatrical, as Florence is caught in an intense struggle with her self-destructive alter-ego.

Acting up like a monstrous tantrum-throwing inner child, this alternative Florence is played by Deena Thompson, who also featured Welch and Haycock’s lovely video for St Jude. For Ship To Wreck, the setting moves to London, but the visual style and themes established in the previous videos remains – flowing camerawork, passionate relationships evoked through drama and modern dance.

This has a stronger focus on Florence’s personal demons, shot through with wry humour, as she storms through life in a flurry of violent outbursts and sleeping pills…

Kasabian ‘Stevie’ by Ninian Doff

KASABIAN01

Ninian Doff’s dramatic and claustrophobic video for Kasabian’s Stevie translates the song’s lyrics – addressed to a potential killer – into a futuristic scenario about the creation through relentless conditioning of an indestructible human. And you sense that it’s not for altruistic reasons.

Masked scientists experiment on a young boy, who knows nothing else but the dark, starkly-lit room where he goes through a grinding daily routine – and becomes impervious to pain. But ultimately the boy shows he’s not simply a completely programmable machine, in a video which grips the viewer as it builds suspense – and leaves us wondering if it is actually set in the future.

And as with his videos this year for Peace and Royal Blood it shows that Ninian – nominated for Best Director at the UKMVAs next month – is getting as good with serious cinematic narratives as he has always been with VFX- and comedy-driven videos.
